Al Khedawy Restaurant Review

Scroll down for English post

Entrance

Ceiling

Hibiscus

Duck

Lamb Fatta

Molokheya

My review today is in one of the oriental restaurant that serves Arabian food like Mahshy, Fatta, Duck, or Molokheya...etc. The restaurant is inside Al Massa hotel in Nasr City, Cairo. Before my review I have to talk a little about that hotel! It has a really big park with trees and plants here and there, you can just go there for a walk in the fresh air with your kids! The garden is really beautiful, not less beautiful than Al Azhar Park.

Restaurant name: Al Khedawy
Type: Oriental cuisine
Address: Inside Al Massa hotel, Abd El Aziz Al Shennawy st., Nasr City, Cairo, Egypt

Back to the restaurant.. it's divided into three sections; one that's outdoor in the fresh air near to a beautiful pool with dancing fountain, beside a good kids' area, it's good for family and friends. The second section is also at the garden and pool, but indoors with glass walls, it is more like a cafe, with Sheesha and drinks, and also offers dishes like pasta and pizza. And the main section is indoors which is suitable for business dinners, and families, it offers oriental dishes from Egyptian and Turkish cuisines; and that's were we went to!
That place took my breath away, the Islamic decoration from back to the era of Muhammed Ali Pacha, with a big painting of him on the wall facing the entrance, unique touch with the old Arabic sayings that had some sense of humor, written beautifully up on the walls around the ceiling, the place was really beautiful with Arabisc here and there. Great old songs for the one and only Umm Kulthum in low volume that you can hear but never bothered by!
After we chose our table they offered us a welcoming drink which was delicious cold Hibiscus tea. The staff were welcoming and friendly with good smile on their faces and they served us well, Although they left us sometime till someone came with the menu, and till someone came to take our order afterwords!
The food was finally served 45 minutes after we ordered, let's now talk about the dishes:
* And as usual I start with the dish that I loved the most, and that was the duck dish, half a duck that was marinated in spice and orange zest, the dish is usually served with couscous and harissa, but I ordered rice instead, it was served with rice with vermicelli, and sauteed vegetables that were perfectly cooked, not over cooked and not raw! The duck was super delicious, best duck I've ever had in my life, the meat was so tender and juicy, the orange zest wasn't overpowering the dish at all, on the contrary it worked perfectly in harmony with the duck meat -you notice the orange zest taste when you concentrate to know what was in there (like me) :D-  I really wanted to thank the chef for that dish, but I got busy and unfortunately forgot, but I really wish if someone from the restaurant staff or management saw this post to thank him for me :)
* The second dish was Fattet Moza, which is layers of toasted bread, steamed rice and tomato sauce with garlic vinegar sauce, served with extra of the both sauces, and cooked lamb shank, which was tender and juicy falling off the bones, I just wanted it to have more spices to cover the taste of lamb fat, which was clear to me, so if you're someone who doesn't prefer lamb meat, it's better not to choose that dish, as the lamb taste is realy obvious even for the ones who haven't tasted it before! Fatta tasted really good and delicious.
* Last but not least, Molokheya.. how delicious!! There is a bar in the restaurant outside of the kitchen that was made specially to make Molokheya in sight of the guests, and you see how they add the final touch "Tassha" to Molokheya, which is sauteed garlic in butter with coriander, and then poured over the soup and makes "Tesh" sound with a reeeally good smell.. Oh.. I'm hungry now! :D

Conclusion: The prices are average to above, around 100 EGP for the main dish, but it was worth it regarding the quality and quantity!
